Escape from D.C. with the Perfect Glamping Experience

Back in November, we had the most wonderful stay at a tiny house in the middle of the woods about 2 hours from D.C. near Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. We stayed with the house through the company called Getaway, which puts plots of tiny houses in the middle of the woods outside of New York City, Boston, Atlanta, and D.C. for the exact purpose of getting away.

I first heard of the company through Instagram sponsored posts. I hadn’t known anyone who had stayed at one before, so I wasn’t sure if it would really live up to the appeal, but it most definitely did! Here’s what I loved about it:

I mean look at that window! It’s such a good little reading nook.

The house

We absolutely adored the tiny house. It was everything you wanted for cozy time at home but also perfect for encouraging you to get out and into nature. The house was clean, warm, and incredibly cozy. It came with a “cell phone lock box,” so we enjoyed putting our phones away and focusing on nature and each other. Of course, it was so nice to have the luxuries of a nice warm shower and a real toilet (yay for glamping).

I loved coming back to the house after a hike and snuggling up in bed with a book and some tea by the huge window overlooking the woods. At night, we enjoyed cooking over the fire at our tiny house (each house has its own) and dancing to the music on the radio provided in the cabin. We loved the house so much, had we stayed longer, I would’ve enjoyed spending a whole day there.

The location

It only took us about two hours to get to the tiny house from D.C. on a Friday night, just enough to get outside of the far D.C. suburbs but not a very far trip at all. While being remote, it is close to Shenandoah, Early Mountain Vineyards, and even Charlottesville if you wanted to get into more civilization. It’s the perfect spot to get in some great hiking!

The property

At first I thought it might be eerie staying in a tiny house in the middle of the woods, but there are a number of houses on the property – the perfect number to make it not too creepy but not feel crowded. We loved walking around through the woods and by the other houses. There was even a cute trail running along a stream through the woods, perfect for a short walk.

The goodies in the house

Each house comes stocked with everything you’d need so you don’t have to worry about going to the store for things. We absolutely loved the drip coffee (way better than the typical instant coffee for camping), the s’mores kit, and firewood. There’s also tea, oatmeal, pasta, pasta sauce, and other snacks for purchase. Everything was reasonably priced too, so we didn’t feel guilty using any of it!

The staff

We briefly got our car stuck on a rock when we were trying to leave one morning, and the Getaway staff joined us within a matter of minutes after we got out of the car and started to jack it up to remove the rock. That was our only interaction with them, but we were so impressed with them. It was definitely good to know that they were nearby and quick to help should we need them.

We absolutely loved our stay and can’t wait to go back. If you’re looking to get outside of your city (whether it be D.C., Boston, New York, or Atlanta), I would definitely recommend Getaway!

So what are you waiting for? Escape the hustle and bustle and book your Getaway today. They always book up quickly! Get $25 off with this link.

Disclosure: I will get $25 to use towards Getaway if you book with the link above, but you know I wouldn’t recommend it if I didn’t think it was a great experience!
