A Must Eat at MU: Shakespeare’s Pizza

There are many great eats in downtown Columbia, home to The University of Missouri. But my mother and I stopped in Columbia on our way to Kansas City just so that we could eat at this great place: Shakespeare’s Pizza. If you’re ever in Missouri for any reason, you have to make the drive to Columbia (roughly in the middle of the state) just to visit.

The pizza is fantastic, but even better is the atmosphere of the restaurant. It feels so nostalgic with its old brick walls and antique decorations like old Coca-Cola memorabilia and an old motorcycle on the wall.

This atmosphere is why Columbia and MU alumni raised an uproar when it was announced that the land housing Shakespeare’s would be bought and the building would be destroyed to house a new six-story building with the pizza restaurant in the bottom. However, it’s been promised that the new building will have the feel of the old building. Let’s hope so!

Either way, I can’t wait that I will be living just two hours from the best pizza I’ve ever had and from this place that’s the only place I’ve continued to go to for my entire life (as I’ve moved so many times). I’ll definitely be making some drives to Columbia this summer just for this pizza – I promise, it’s worth it.
